Katlyn has been a dedicated employee for the State of South Dakota since 2011. She is the Global Media & Public Relations Director for the South Dakota Department of Tourism.  In her role, she takes a proactive approach to working with the local, regional, national and international media to share news about South Dakota to inspire travel to the state. Her personal mission is to story tell in a way that evokes a feeling of wanderlust for both the media professional and travel consumer. Ultimately, her team works to inspire tourism to South Dakota through earned media coverage. While working with media professionals is her main responsibility, she takes an active role in the department’s marketing efforts, overall PR strategy and work, and provides communication strategies for the Department of Tourism’s consumers, board members and industry stakeholders.

Originally from Minnesota, she is proud to call South Dakota home. Katlyn graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University in 2009.  She resides in Pierre and stays busy raising two very active and athletic girls, Grace (12) and Annie (7). Her personal hobbies include taking the road less traveled, boating on Lake Oahe, ATV trail riding in the Black Hills, traveling to new places, and DIY projects on their acreage outside of Pierre.

Forward – Balancing Family, Work, and Goals with Grit
Constant improvement. Yes for success. Finding balance in life.  If you can dream it you can do it. That all sounds great, right? But in reality, life never takes us down the easiest path or the path that we planned when we graduated from college. We’re all faced with challenges at work, in our communities and in our homes. Today’s working professional has more to balance than ever before. Is balance possible, or is it just more wishful thinking? How do you manage all of life’s pressures to be a successful leader, employee, mother, community member, friend and spouse?  In this session, Katlyn shares the strategy she puts into action on a daily basis. Deliberate, forward thinking.
